I'm excited to announce a 6-8 week group event focused on social robots
starting July 15th, 7-9PM! I'm setting a soft goal of 4-8 people
participating.
**What's a Social Robot?**
A social robot is designed to interact with humans in a natural,
engaging way, maybe like a pet that happens to be electronic. These
robots can recognize faces, respond to voice commands, express emotions
through movement or sounds, or even just provide companionship through
simple interactions. The goal is creating something that feels
personable rather than just functional.
**Meeting Details**
**When**: July 15th start, 7-9PM for all sessions
**Where**: make717 Conference Room (someone will greet and direct at the door)
**Event Structure**
Each meeting starts with brief status updates, then we spend the
remaining time hacking on individual projects or getting distracted by
someone else's. A good starting place may be to find a toy to modify to
have more interesting interactions. Picture a Furby or vintage robot
toy. AI involvement will be up to individuals, the focus is on the
social interaction aspect.
**Who Can Join**
Open to anyone! Minors need adult accompaniment.
